Playtime is highly beneficial for our dogs and adding a toy into the mix can encourage brain development whilst aiding education about the environment around them. It’s also a great way of spending quality time with your pooch! Keep reading to find out what chews we recommend for dogs of all ages.

Puppy chew toys

There is a great range of chew toys suitable for puppies, especially those who are teething and want to chew anything and everything in sight! The first product we recommend is from Kong, who have created an active ball that supports puppies who are learning appropriate chewing behaviour. Made from the Classic unique puppy rubber, this toy fulfills the instinctual need to chew by easing aching teeth and gums. The second product we recommend for puppies is from the same brand, titled the Kong Puppy. The Puppy Kong dog toy is made from the unique, all-natural rubber formula that is the most gentle within the Kong rubber toy line. Due to the nature of the material, it makes a bouncing motion when dropped or played with, offering a sense of enrichment and encouraging playtime. This Kong can be easily stuffed with your puppy’s favourite treats to extend play time or make crate training a bit easier!

Green & Wilds are a company that prides itself on producing natural and healthy dog treats and toys! Their range of fun dog toys is made from sustainable jute, a tough and long-lasting natural plant fibre that is 100% biodegradable. The smaller-sized toys in this range are suitable for puppies but we must recommend you never leave your dog unattended with any toy.

Adult dog chews

We have plenty of choice when it comes to chews for adult dogs, from treat dispensers to nylon bones, there is sure to be something to keep your pooch occupied. The first product that is a hit with our customers has to be our range of Whimzees dental chews. Whimzees have six natural, functional ingredients and no artificial ingredients, colours, flavours, preservatives, GMOs, gluten, or meat. Being high in fibre and low in calories and sugars, they are great for overall dental health, with their unique shapes that ensure proper blood flow through the gums and prevent bad breath and the build-up of tartar. The best thing about Whimzees? The amazing shapes they make! Hedgehogs (£1.75), alligators (£1.00), and the ever-popular rice bones (£1.25) are always popular in our pet shop, let your dog them for themselves today!

Kong isn’t just famous for its treat dispensing toys but also its fetching and tugging range! The Ogee stick is created from a durable material and brings a new dimension of flexibility to satisfy your pooch’s chewing instinct. The rounded edges combined with the unique material make this toy a great option for the larger breed whilst being gentle enough on the teeth and gums to not worry about damage. As an added bonus, the Ogee stick also floats, meaning water fun is also an option! If your dog prefers more of a furry toy, the Kong Floppy Knots are designed to withstand a thrashing. The variety of textures makes for a great enrichment experience with minimal mess due to the knotted internal structure which still satisfies your dog’s natural instinct to hunt.

Natural chews

Nobody wants to be feeding their pets artificial nonsense so we’ve put together a short list of our favourite natural dog chews to keep your pooch occupied! At the top of the list and the most popular has to be the Yakity Yak Bars from Green & Wilds (£3-£13). These yak bars are handcrafted from a blend of 100% yak’s/cow’s milk with a little lime and salt and then smoked to form a hard, tasty, cheesy chew. They are available in various sizes, meaning whatever their size, your dog will love them! If you’ve got a more senior dog a softer chew is a great way to keep the enrichment up without putting additional strain on their teeth and gums. Pooch’s created a product with this in mind; the Puppy & Senior chews (£4.50) are 100% beef, thin, low fat and easy to chew. The final products that make great, long-lasting chews have to be the horn and antler selection from Green & Wilds (£5-£29). Hard and long-lasting, these chews contain a number of good minerals and are totally natural, free from additives or preservatives and hypoallergenic. What’s not to love?!
